Castle Acre Primary School

 2018 Poet Visit

On Wednesday 31st January 2018, the poet and author A. F. Harrold (Ashley) spent the day with us at Castle Acre. He held  hour long workshops throughout the day aimed at promoting a love of poetry within the children.

The children in Oak Class thoroughly enjoyed listening to readings of his poems and were transfixed by his performance. He helped them to write a group poem and gave loads of tips on how to start, write and then improve their poems.

The day ended with an Assembly to which parents were invited, followed by a book signing session where children, parents and staff were able to buy copies of his book 'Things you find in a Poet's Beard.'

"He taught me how to start a poem and also tweak them. We should do more things like this as it makes writing poetry more interesting and fun." - Freddie

"The most surprising thing was that some of his poems were raps! He even rapped out loud with actions"- Poppy

"The only thing I want is for him to come again!" - Isabella
