Monday 11th May

I hope you all had a fantastic bank holiday weekend!

Learning tasks for Monday...

Spellings:

Use the powerpoint to explore when to use the ‘ous’ and ‘ious’ suffixes.

Read for pleasure: Spend 10-15 minutes (or more if you want) reading something for pleasure. It could be a story, poem, play, information text, comic, graphic novel or online text/kindle/e-reader. You could also read to a younger or older sibling.

English: Writing your Biography about Charles Darwin

Today, you will need to use your notes to write a biography (in your own words) about Charles Darwin.

Remember, you will need to organise your writing into paragraphs and in chronological order. You will also need to go into detail about how Darwin formed his theory of evolution. Also, the tone needs to be formal, so think carefully about some of the vocabulary you use (e.g. children would be more appropriate than kids). Try to showcase your writing skills (varying sentence starters, fronted adverbials, relative clauses, subordinate clauses, punctuation).

Tomorrow, you will be editing and improving your writing. Don’t forget, our first draft is never perfect.

I’m sure none of you will, but please don’t just copy chunks from the internet. This writing needs to be your own.

Maths:

Science: Fossils

Use the powerpoint below (Theory of evolution: Fossils) to explore how fossils helped Charles Darwin to develop his theory of evolution.

Use the activity sheet below (Fossil evidence for evolution) to compare a fossil with its modern day relative, working scientifically as Charles Darwin did. Use you observation skills to look for similarities and differences, and record your observations in your exercise books. You only need to compare one (either the fern or the flatfish) but can do both if you wish.
