Plastic Hunt at Wells - June 2019

On Friday 28th June 2019, Oak Class climbed aboard the coach and travelled to Wells for a day on the beach. Our current topic is 'Coast' so once we had arrived we looked for and discussed the different coastal features present. We noticed features such as harbour, sea wall, sandbank, gabions, groynes, dunes and erosion.

Our next task was to collect plastics from a section of beach approximately 800 metres long. The children were surprised at the amount of plastic and other types of litter that had been deposited on the beach such as netting, plastic wires, string, plastic cups, straws, plastic bags and bottle tops. Each piece found was placed in a bag and brought back to school for analysis.

After a lovely picnic on the beach, we went into the woods for an afternoon of games and den-building. The children had an opportunity to buy ice-creams and sweets before climbing back aboard the coach for our journey back to school.
