Happy world book day!
English: Writing your short story
As it is world book day, you are going to be creating your own story in the style of Cressida Cowell's How To Train Your Dragon. Use your plan from yesterday, your setting description and your map to start off your story. Get creative!
Maths:
Daily 10
Encourage pupils to practise their times tables by clicking on the link below. This will give 10 questions based around recall of the times tables facts.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
You could also try selecting division to practice using your knowledge of times tables to solve related division questions.
White Rose Maths
Note: this week there are separate lessons for year 4 and year 5 children.
Year 4: Fractions of a set of objects (2)
Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial about finding fractions of a set of objects. Learn how to use the bar model to find fractions of amounts.
Then, complete the worksheet below (Y4 Maths Thursday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.
Parents: I have also uploaded the answer sheet (Y4 MATHS ANSWERS) for you to refer to.
Year 5: Subtract fractions
Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial to learn about how to subtract fractions.
Then complete the worksheet (Year 5 Maths Thursday). You will need to use your knowledge of equivalent fractions when subtracting fractions with different denominators.
Art/DT
Design and make a front cover for your story.
Don’t forget to include the title, the author and an image that gives the reader a clue what your story might be about. Don’t forget to make it eye-catching!
Optional extras…
READ! It’s world book day! Choose a favourite story to read to a sibling/adult. Try to use expression and actions to make the story come to life. You could even experiment using different voices, make a performance, be as entertaining as you can!
Take part in the world book day competition. Write either a poem, a letter or a paragraph about hope. (See the document below for more details).
Be inspired! Write a poem in the style of Michael Rosen (Raisen)… anything goes!
My all time favourite - take a photo of you reading in an unusual place to share on Class Dojo or our reading wall for when you're back in school!
