Learning tasks for Tuesday...

Spellings:

Practice adding the suffixes ‘ous’ or ‘ious’ to words. Use slide 6 of the powerpoint for some ideas of words containing these suffixes. Remember, don’t do them all at once, 10 is plenty!

Read for pleasure: Spend 10-15 minutes (or more if you want) reading something for pleasure. It could be a story, poem, play, information text, comic, graphic novel or online text/kindle/e-reader. You could also read to a younger or older sibling.

English: Editing your Biography

It is the return of editing stations!

Today, you will be looking carefully at your biography, and visiting 3 editing stations: punctuation, spelling and adverbs. You should spend up to 10 minutes at each station, and make corrections/changes to your writing in a different colour.

Remember, at the punctuation station, you should only be looking at and correcting your use of punctuation. Having seen some examples of writing already, in particular, make sure you have used capital letters for proper nouns.

At the spelling station, your only focus is correcting your spellings. You can use dictionaries/online dictionaries/spell checkers to help you.

At the adverbs station, we are looking for your use of adverbs to tell the reader when, how or why something happened. Remember, starting your sentence with an adverb/adverbial phrase (a fronted adverbial) makes your sentence structure more interesting, but should be followed by a comma…

e.g. Later in life, Charles Darwin……

During his time on the Galapagos islands, Charles Darwin…..

The prompts for each editing station are available in the word document below (Editing stations).
