Castle Acre Primary School

Wednesday 1st April 2020

RECEPTION:

Phonics:

Let’s go on a sound hunt! Travel around the house and find all of the things that make a sound. Can you write down anything you see that makes a noise? (e.g, TV, fridge, phone, hairdryer etc.)

Practise Phase 3 sounds the children know so far: j, v, w, x, y, z, qu, sh, ch, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow,

This game on Phonics Play is really handy for recapping the sounds (the children haven't been taught all of the sounds yet): https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/Flashcards.html (Try this website if Phonics Play isn't working on your device: new.phonicsplay.co.uk!)

English: Design your dream house! What rooms would you have in your house? You could have a cinema room, a princess room, a chocolate room or a swimming pool room! Can you label the different parts of your house using your phonics sounds?

Practise writing the following letters: j, k, I, m, n, y (remember that tall lines (ascenders) need to aim up high in the sky whereas dangly letters (descenders) need to droop down low).

Maths: Addition and Subtraction

Watch the Numberblocks episode here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/numberblocks-adding-up-quiz

Find a group of objects (a handful of cereal would be great for this!) Have a go at answering these questions using the objects you have found!

Remind children that when we are subtracting we need to take some away, but when we are adding we need to add to our original group.

10 – 5 =

6 – 5 =

13 – 4

7 + 3 =

5 + 4 =

2 + 6 =

Can you make your own number sentences to find the answers to? - show me on Tapestry, I'd love to see!

Topic: Where in the world are we?

Find your house on Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps)! Use the arrows on Google Maps to search up and down your street – can you find the shop, the school, the park?

Repeat the activity for another town/village- perhaps Briston, Worcester or Fakenham- can you find a park, a shop or a school in this country?

Year 1:

Phonics: See if you can remember the Phase 5 phonemes using this game: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/FlashcardsTC.html (Login is: Username: march20 password: home - new.phonicsplay.co.uk - try this website if Phonics Play isn't working on your device)

See how well you do with the Reading Robot activity too - remember some of the words are nonsense words! https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/ReadingRobotTest.html

English:

Look at a letter that has been posted to you recently, how has the address been laid out? Notice that each section of the address is on a new line.

How to address your mail (Clear addressing)

Write a letter to a family member telling them what you’ve been up to this week. What 3 things have you learnt whilst being at home? What’s been your favourite thing to do? What have you seen recently? Tell them all about it!

Then tuck your letter into an envelope and write their address on the front – remember to post it (if you can).

Maths:

Practise adding and subtracting numbers up to 20, or challenge yourselves with the larger numbers in this game: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train

Make a card game (similar to pairs) where two numbers add up to make 20. Can you play it with adults at home?

It is officially the end of the Spring Term! I won't be uploading daily work during this time so you can enjoy a well earned break! There will be an Easter challenge uploaded to a file on the right hand side of the page and it would be great if you can have a go at the challenge during the Easter break. Stay safe everyone! I'll be back uploading tasks on the 20th April 2020.
